I kind of agree w/ Hodge as well. I think this mans comments were unfortunate and it shows his disconnect with Main street America. His polls may be rising, but he hasn’t a shot in hell IMHO!
What about the people who overextended themselves on what they could afford in a mortgage KNOWINGLY. Not the subprime victims but the middle and upper class who bought houses that given their income they shouldn’t. Are we allowed to blame them?
Yes, we can blame them. To suggest one side has 100% of the blame is to feign ignorance. I’m certain there were people out there who jumped on these loans for self serving interests.
I’m still befuddled as to why the all these mortgage insurance companies insured these kinds of loans knowing full well both the bank and the person given to weren’t going to be able to meet the obligations. I still see this as 2/3 financial sector 1/3 consumer fault.
Thats what they said back in the late 80′s when we had the savings and loan collapse, much the same way we had this one. o.O … this is my second experience in life with banks-mortgages-home value decimation! Cept the first time, it was my parents and their home. Although, back then, I don’t believe mortgages were bundled, sold and bet on as futures, the bank who gave you the mortgage held the mortgage. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong there.
There is a point to be made for personal fiscal responsibility. I didn’t take a loan because I could not pay it, even though it was approved. I didn’t change my car as I wanted and it’s still driving great (hope I don;t jynx it) after 10 years. I stuck to a job even though it’s not my dream job.
People surely need to be accountable for their own desicions, but there is a serious logic flaw in the claim that if you are going through bad times, you only have yourself to blame.
Herman Cain is appealing to a large demographic: the douchebag vote. Never mind that the policies his ideological soul-mates championed tanked the economy. They want to further sink the economy by cutting government spending at a time where the government needs to spend to create demand.
Sorry… the tea party sh*t drives me bonkers…
I do agree now is the time to forge ahead with rehabbing our infrastructure. The construction industry is at a standstill and reinvesting in ourselves is the way to go. For anyone suggesting we shouldn’t, if not now when interest rates and construction bidding would be at its most affordable, then when? We pay for the roads and bridges, we should be keeping them in good working order. Bonds would allow us to pay them over time and as the economy turns around then those revenues would be there to cover them.
The Government needs to spend, because corporations are still sitting on a mountain of cash and not spending. We’re in a moment where a second New Deal is called for.
The TP used to be people pissed off at the system until the GOP subsidized them…now they are pissed off at the government instead of the corporations. It isn’t that I am against capitalism, I’m against corporatizism where the corporations are buying the government and dictating what the government should do not vice versa like it should be. Cry me a river when these big corporations sit in their nice, cozy loop holes and don’t pay taxes then scare everyone by saying if we tax ‘em, they’ll take their jobs elsewhere and raise prices…haven’t they already done that? TP needs to go away, real change needs to happen in government, but as long as the corporate lobbyists are holding the reins, it ain’t gonna’ happen. Remember in your history books when speculators were hung as it was against the law to speculate on stocks and commodities? That went bye-bye and speculators run Wall Street driving prices up and down on a whim. My 401k disappeared just before I was outsourced in 2008 and what little I had left I had to roll into an IRA where I can’t touch it unless I wanna pay a penalty up front and then get taxed on it at the end of the year…it’s my money, but yet, I can’t use the damn thing! *huff-puff -steps off his cardboard box as he needs it to sleep in* Get a clue Pizza Man Cain…you’re last name is appropriate…you killed your brother Abel and are out for more blood…ours!
Everything is a commodity for speculators now, from your bundled mortgage to your energy needs. They bet on them as “futures” don’t they? Hows that working out for the average American?
Allow me… its NOT! o.O Why the hell can’t we have some basic regulations in place? The rest of the freaking industrialized world does! o.O
Well, the sooner they insert foot into mouth, the sooner we can look elsewhere. What he did was a gift actually. He made it easier for the average person to know he needs to be ignored! o.O
Give it to ‘em Hodge! Can’t wait for more Halloween Madbury-ness!
Zombie-mania continues this Thursday, time willing! Thanks Mark! [grin]
It’s not the Victim’s fault, you crooks!
I’m part of the 99% with Hodge on this one…

I think we were at a time of economic growth so no one figured we would hit a bubble.

TAX unused wealth and you will see it moving again, to the benefit of all.
amen to that!

Sheesh! This guy’s put his foot in his mouth way too soon. I’ll remmebr not to give him my vote.

I’m going to blame Cain for everything that goes wrong now. If I stub my toe, it’s, “Cain, you f__king bastard!”
That’ll show him!
You can blame him all you want, but he’ll just tell you that if you can’t control your feet, you shouldn’t have them! o.O #True
What was the Motörhead lyric? Oh ya…
“C’mon baby, and eat the rich!”
Ha! O.K. maybe it’s not the entire answer, but it sure feels good to sing it.
“Come on baby, eat the rich,
Put the bite on the son of a bitch,
Don’t mess up, don’t you give me no switch…
C’mon baby and eat the rich”
I do believe those are the lyrics and it -is- fitting for sure! [grin]
