Now, the question for the day is this… “If a doctor pulls his hand out of your arse on groundhog day and see’s the shadow of fear upon your face, does that mean 6 more weeks of hell freezing over before you allow it to happen again?!?”
For those of you feeling a sense of de-ja-vu, this strip is based loosely on one I did waaaay back when, that is not part of the “official” archive. I will also do the follow up one from the “vault” that came after this one as well. My brain is not focusing on the task at hand of doing new comics at the moment, but I also want to keep things active here, so bear with me. The wife and I had a passing in the family recently and while life does go on, it can be a little slow plowing forward with a clear, creative and rested mind!
I’ll be back again next Tuesday and we should be seeing a regular update schedule (Tue/Fri) beginning then! Thanks for your patience everyone!

Sorry for your loss. I vaguely recall seeing version 1 of this strip, but like a fine wine, it has improved with age.

You don’t really recover from that kind of an exam, you kind of just roll over and take a nap!
I know it needs to be done, but that procedure just scares the bejeezus outta me!
There’s nothing scary about it, but just make sure you can look the doc in the eye afterwards!

As for your strip, I’ve been meaning to say… they are looking GREAT as of late. (I too recall reading this one a ways back) You seem to have mastered the tablet! I love the size, colors and overall total look of things! As well as the humor. It seems so much more bright and clear. Really SWEET JOB! Keep up the great work!
On a side note: You know you have a problem if your doctor wants to start your examination with this part of the exam, rather than waiting until ending with the …END!!!

Thanks for the kind words Gary, on both fronts!! I haven’t mastered the tablet, I’m adjusting every time I use it! The bigger I draw digitally, the crisper the lines are when shrunk down to hide my shakiness. I’ve switched to a new color pallete, it’s ironically called “muted”! …now, if only I could master shading in a way that was acceptable to my eye, I’d be a happy camper!! The learning process never ends, which is what I like!!
Hey Scott. One quick note: When you think of shading, think of where the light source is coming from. I usually have it come in from the top left or top right and then from either in front or behind the characters. When you know where your light source is coming from it makes it a bit easier to determine which areas should be shaded and which should not. I don’t get it right many times myself. Sometimes it can make you crazy. In your P3 above, it looks like the light source is coming from the top left, and from behind. You might want to then try the shading under the glasses rather than above. And the same with the beard. You could try making the left (his front side) lighter rather than the bottom. Same with the hair that sticks out at the top back of his head. Maybe try the light on the left (his front) side and make the right (his back) side dark. In any event, I really like what you’re doing. As for the colors, I guess “muted” would be a good pallete description for them. But still they are clear and bright. The just don’t take over and become the focal point. I think I favor the “muted” colors.

I love it when someone throws their 2 cents in a constructive manner!! I do understand what you mean by angle and direction, but even still, I don’t always pull it off. I think, for me, I’ve been “over shadowing” and probably need to simplify the amount of areas I add the shading to a character. When it comes to object shading, I find it easy, when it comes to people shading, it frustrates me a bit. Plus there is the whole issue of testing the ways one might want to shadow, using gray tones, or similar colors to the area being shaded etc… and how much to scale the transparency factor back to.
I don’t get it. These men refuse to get their prostates examined but will happily walk around a dirty locker room naked and if you let them, they’ll mow the lawn naked too.
There is a HUGE difference between walking around a locker room bare assed, or being bare assed in general and having your “asphincter says what” violated, even for medical needs!! o.O *grin* …some people just prefer the “exit only” mantra when it comes to that general area!!
